Overview

I am now 43 years old and live in Gosport, Hampshire.

I have been distance running for 8 years and before that I kept fit taking abuse from footballers as a referee. I reached the semi pro level but gave it up when I realised I wasn't going any further and wanted a new challenge.

In 2007 I fulfilled a lifetime ambition and took part in the FLM. In truth I was disappointed with my performance but on a day as hot as it was I was not alone in that disappointment. Still I have the finishers T-shirt and medal that I will treasure forever.

Shortly after that I got injured, (probably the result of the hundreds of miles ran in training for the marathon). I needed a minor knee operation and although I am now fully recovered  but a little slower than I used to be (I am also a little older and a little bigger !!!).  One thing being injured and not being able to run taught me is that I love it and missed not being able to do it.

My other passion (besides my family) is St Helens RLFC but like most sports if the truth be known.

Gosh, is it that long............

...........since I blogged. Life is busy and although I have been running, getting on the computer and updating you on my life has had to take second place to sitting in the same room with the family to catch up on their busy lives.

Another reason for not blogging is after my holiday I appear to have slowed down a bit. I decided with just 5 weeks to go the GSR I had to do something drastic. This was up the miles and reduce the weight. In short last week I lost 4lbs and did 33 miles (1x10, 1x4, 1x5 and 2x7 mile runs) Times were average but getting better.

Yesterday I took the girls out on a run, each did 1.6 miles in PBs and then I set off and did 8 miles myself. I went out again tonight and did 7 miles in 1.02.04 and as I was nearly hit by a cyclist and also by a car reversing out of is drive at speed both of which caued me to stop I was please with the run.

Rest day tomorrow as have a meeting but may get a little run in on Wednesday. Aiming for 30+ miles again this week.

Take care everyone.

That is some impressive mileage - well done. Just a little word of caution - don't over do it. You don't want to burn out like I have. Take your rest days too.

WOW! That's an impressive week! Well done you, especially as you sound so busy with family stuff.

See you in a few weeks!
