Losing my mojo

Mar1420123:09 p.m.

NOW? 5 weeks before the marathon? What the heck? Why now? I really am starting to not give a damn if I run or not. Since my 15 miler I seem to have found excuses not to go for along run. Done a few shorter ones but the long ones? Forget it.

Injury - I still have a groin stain. Strange thing is it hurts only when I get up from sitting down or if I stand for a few minutes then the first few steps hurt. Once I am moving it is fine but I do 'feel' it when I am running although not all the time. I ice it, I massage it (can't get as deep as the sports massage girls though) and I even put deep heat on it but it is not getting better, if anything it is getting very slighty worse.

Yet still I run! - shorter distances as I said already but I still run on it. I know I probably shouldn't and that is is not doing me any good but I am training for a marathon you know! A marathon in 5 weeks! A week off now won't hurt will it? But I don't want a week off, I want to get a 16 miler in (missed it on Monday), an 18 miler and 2 X 20 milers in but I only have 3 weeks to do them! I want to go into this one a lot better trained than I was in 2007.

Physio - I just can't afford £30 to go see someone. I need new trainers as well (not from the internet this time) so that is £80+ I need to find first. Can't be buying them a week before the big day.

Running - part of the point of this blog is to record my running so here we go (since my last entry). Well I seem to have gotten lazy. Sunday - Assistant referee (linesman to me and you) on a Cup Semi final, did a fair bit but not more than 2 miles all game. Monday I got Mrs K to drop me off at the same place as she did when I did my 6 mile PB last week, hang on, that needs another thread. Tuesday I did 4 miles in 45 minutes and Wednesday I did a slow run  with Mrs K.

Monday - got Mrs K to drop me off at the same point as last Thursdays run so I could do the same route. Took the dog with me this time as most of it is off road so he can run free. Silly me set off just as dusk was settling in. When you run trails in the daylight you can see every little bump and tree root and stone and hole, in the dark you can see bugger all! This slowed me down as I had to try and pick my way through the woods and then along a river bank by what scarce light there was. For 2½ miles I tiptoed my way until eventually we made it unscathed to a concreted bike path. It was heaven! I did have to stop for the dog twice or he would have been in a fight but overall I am not unhappy with doing the same route in 1:09:31, a whole 3 minutes slower than last time. And very pleased that I kept running when it would have been easier to walk.

Wednesday - went out for a jog round the block with Mrs K who has decided to start running again. We did run/walk for 3 miles using lamp posts as markers. Neither of us took a watch as it was just a run/walk to see how it went.

Weekend off? - I have closed all refereeing dates for the foreseeable future so I can concentrate on running long on a Sunday. Seems sensible given what I am going to attempt in a few weeks. I WILL visit my dad (in Addlestone) and leave the kids there so I can run along the Basingstoke Canal from Byfleet, also a run along the Wey Navigation from the same place. And I will do one along the Thames from Chertsey towards Hampton Court. Despite living near there for over 20 years I have never been along that way before (but know the other two like the back of my hand - well I did 26 years ago!) so it will be new and interesting. I will post the days I am running so if anyone is on the route I expect a cheery hello and a kick up the backside.

Fat Club - didn't go today as Mrs K wanted to run and I want to encourage her to keep it up. We can do another fat club later in the week.

Blimey, long one. Post, not run!

Never ever give up

  • Liz_hudson 'I totally lost my marathon mojo last week and was at the point of giving up as I just thought it was all getting too hard. I did not go out at all last week but did fit in 12 miles at the weekend which was my deciding run. Think of all the hours you have put in so far and through the worst weather. Only 3 more tough weeks left. Hope you find your mojo.' added 14th Mar 2012
