Some runs are better than others...

Jul17201110:03 a.m.

..but not all. I'll start this entry where I left off my last one before coming to that.

Blisters - it was only one, but it was a big bugger and right on the back of my heel. I got it from wearing new shoes but it stopped me running for a little while as any shoes I wore rubbed on it. Then it got infected too so I've had to treat it but now, thankfully, it is healing nicely.

5 miles - did a couple of runs home from work this week, I still haven't beaten the b'stard hill yet (and I see Annie is having a similar prpblem with hers - c'mon Annie WE CAN DO IT!). Both runs were around 56mins, a little slower (in fact, quite a bit slower) than I want to run. It is 2.5 miles uphill from the start (then only a mile down the other side?) so I should be able to do it but I think I have mental block that I can't. But I will.

4 miles - todays title. Went for a 4 mile jog yesterday. Really didn't want to,  didn't feel like it and wanted to stay home - so off I went! (well, got Mrs K to drop me off on the way back from the shops) And I really do feel that I needn't have bothered. It was a crap run, I kept taking walk breaks as I just could not be bothered with it. Yet in the end, despite many short walks, I did 4 miles in 47.31!

Stroke - I have decided that my next run for charity will be raising money for the Stroke Association. My 21 yr old daughter had a stroke a few weeks ago, a mini stroke but I don't think the word mini makes any difference when it's your own kid. Thankfully she is OK now and fully recovered but it was scary at the time. And she was with other people too (at a gym no less!) so she got treatment pretty quickly. But it brings home to you that it could happen to anyone at any time as our favourite Northern Monkey, Mr David Rudd, can testify.

That's really not much of a blog really is it? I need to try harder, I need to run places where something interesing/exciting/amazing happens instead of hiding myself away on secluded trails.

Oh, I did find £10 yesterday when I was running, that is about as exciting as it gets!

Never ever give up

  • Spotdog 'So the silver lining was in the £10 note? Sounds like a hard week, it's really hard when you think you can't be bothered but sound like you have a new challenge ahead which is a positive and will motivate you. Have you got a Park Run near you? Well worth checking out if you have as you can track your times and how you're improving. And you can beat the hill, just keep going, you'll do it.' added 17th Jul 2011

  • Nick 'That's a very worthy cause to run for (even if it is also supported by Mr Rudd!) I hope your daughter is recovering well. I've never heard of someone having a stroke at such a young age.' added 17th Jul 2011

  • Dungey 'Great cause, its something we always associate with getting older but know of far too many people who suffer strokes at a much younger age. Hope your daughter is ok ' added 18th Jul 2011
