Right leg - why do you hate me so?

Sep2020072:22 p.m.

We used to get on so well together - me and my right leg. It was quite a thing to have both legs work in the same way, though these days my right leg is not behaving like a right leg should. I've blogged a few times about "the leg" and the things it does to try and hamper my training progress, and I think that it's done a good job of it this week. It's a weird ache - it's not like a life-threatening ache which stops me walking - it's more an irritating throb around the knee and the back of the knee. I'm not sure if this is a common thing, but last year I was blessed with no injuries.

Well, except for that tripwire incident in Bensham.

I digress! Last Sunday's run was good because the leg didn't really give me too much trouble, though all this week it's been a bit of an irritation. So close to the run, I really don't want to risk aggravating the leg on a training run. I'm meant to do a small 5k training run tonight, but doesn't look like it's happening. I'm annoyed by how my body is taking great joy in stopping me doing what I want to do. I've cursed a bit too much at it on some training runs - maybe this is its revenge.

I do think that if I rest now until the run then I should still be able to run on the day and pull a good time too. Then again, times. Pfft. I would rather run a 3 hour rather than a 2 hour run and enjoy the day all the more. It would be great for old time's sake to be able to run the last long training run on the Sunday - although it's been scaled down somewhat to 7k by design.

I'd like to thank everyone so far who has generously given money and messages of support to me - you're fantastic! I just hope I'm fit enough on the day to not let anyone down, especially Macmillan. If you want to help my cause and donate, then please visit http://www.justgiving.com/stevenpick/ and give what you can - it all helps!

Maybe I should scan in a photo of my knee so you can print it out and touch it in some kind of weird "Beckham's Foot" Sun thing...
