Pre Race Nerves

It was not until today, this afternoon on fact when I collected Simon's bike to transport up north, that the magnitude of what we are going to do next week struck me. From the initial seeds of a thought of an idea, sown following the epic Sport Relief Super Cycle with Chiles and Shearer I'd sat and waited, then waited some more. Then further inspired by Team GBs spectacular medal haul in Beijing the idea germinated to become the little less than epic L’Etape du Plastique. Now it's about to blossom and I'm wondering if I've peaked too soon.
We've decided to push into the city of Oxford on day one so will have pedalled nearly ninety miles, or more likely much further as we are not operating with SatNav! I've covered less than a quarter of this distance on my longest training ride so far, or more correctly not so far!! At least there is the thought of a pub, a pint of the land lords finest ale or two and some traditional pub grub. Note to self, must book the hotel!!!!!
There is then the no small issue of bedroom etiquette. We'll be twinning up, something I've not done for a long while except in the biblical sense with the wife, so how does that work? Note to self, must buy some pyjamas!
At least that then leaves only 50 miles or so on day two to complete the challenge, pop the champagne corks and, settling down on a soft cushion or four, drink the aches and pains into a hazy oblivion with copious amounts of alcohol. I have been told it's a good idea to drink as it helps all those tired muscle relax and if lucky you get carried home without the further effort of having to walk.
Bon voyaaaaage
