A glorious run and some new targets

What a beautiful day it was yesterday – a lovely cool, sunny autumnal day. I had a 90minute run on the cards and I could not wait to get going. I have struggled with my last 2 LSRs because I tried to run them too quick. So decided to change a few things – aimed for 11min miles, instead of listening to music I put on the Marathon Talk podcast and instead of carrying a water bottle I hid it in the woods to be picked up about 5.5 mile stage.
I had a glorious run – really enjoyed it, time went by so quick and when I got to the end, I could have gone further. Stats were 8.2miles at 10.59min/mile pace and average HR of 145bpm. It was an undulating route, so very happy with this.
As my running has improved recently I have set myself some targets to try and achieve in the next 6 months.
5K – 30 minutes (current PB 30.42 – as part of a 5 mile run)
10K – 60 minutes (current PB 66 minutes?)
Half marathon - 2hours 15 (current PB 2:25:55 Great North West Half marathon 2009)
Marathon – 5 hours (current PB 5:32:28: London marathon 2009)
I have also booked to do the Great North West Half marathon in Blackpool on 26 February 2012 which I have done once before in 2009 and I am also considering entering the Village Bakery Half Marathon on 19 February 2012 which is just down the road to me in Wrexham. It is a very small field only about 500, which I am slightly nervous about. Has anyone ever ran it?
Hope all is well in your worlds.

simonedumergue 'Hi Sharon, sounds like that was a great run - I love it when it all comes together just right! I found the Marathon Talk podcasts good company for the longer runs - a good distraction as you get so engrossed in them. I find it definitely helps having some goals too - keeps the running focused. Good luck with the targets :-)' added 7th Nov 2011

Rob_Barber 'Village Bakery 1/2 is a good run - its flatter than you would expect round here and pretty well put together. Get there nice and early though 'cause you have a bit of a walk up to the start line, nice barrabrith will get thrown to you as you cross the finish line - so be ready for it :-) ' added 7th Nov 2011

glen_b 'I do Marathon Talk on longer runs, takes my mind off the legs, or makes me think of Tony's mantra about legs which I cannot repeat on here! I think Alison has convinced me to work towards the Half in Blackpool in Feb, so I should see you there. Pete is also going I think, and we'll possibly get Ruddy there???' added 7th Nov 2011

Hat 'Oh Marathon Talk is fabulous - although having said that I haven't listened to one of their podcasts for ages - too busy chatting with my running buddies. But when on long runs alone, it's great to have a voice in the ear 'ole - better than thumpety thump music I always think...It's so exciting when one's running starts to improve and great that you have some races to aim for - I have no doubt you will hit your targets - my first marathon was 5.25, about the same as you and this year at Brighton I ran 4.15 - so it just goes to show what can happen and believe me, nobody is more surprised than me! Good luck!x' added 8th Nov 2011
