Kenyan Hills and Marathon training plans

Quick update on weeks training so far:
Monday – rest
Tuesday – up early for a Kenyan hill session. New one on me this – apparently you keep the same intensity downhill as uphill: So it was 5 mins warm up then 5mins fast up and down hills *4 with 2 mins recovery and then 5 mins warm down. Really enjoyed this session, will definitely do it again. Felt great for the rest of the day knowing my run was out of the way.
Wednesday – 1 hour Taekwondo Training.
Thursday – 55 mins tempo run – not all done at tempo pace. I think I had a 5mins slow bit in the middle but 5.4 miles covered. Felt better than last week and my splits were much more even.
Friday – 25 lengths swam in the pool whilst my son had his swimming lesson.
This weekend am planning on 100mins running for my LSR, hopefully will get it done tomorrow. Then Taekwondo training again on Sunday.
At the moment I am loosely following a half marathon training schedule which should get me up to running 2 hours in the next three weeks. Then I think I am going to start my marathon training plan early – just to give me a fallback in case of illness or injury – ever the optimist! Hopefully it will all be OK and I will add in a few weeks or do some weeks twice?.
I have spent ages looking at marathon plans and have decided to use the same one as I used last time from the book ‘marathon from start to finish’ by Sam Murphy. I really like this plan as there is lots of variety in the training program – speed work, hills, etc. However, mid-week mileage seems low . Mainly 30 mins runs – does not seem to push to 40 mins in the mid week until about week 7/8 of a 16 week schedule. So I am going to adapt it a bit to suit me and where I am up to my training so far. . Also the LSRS start at week 1 on 6 miles and then increase by 1 mile every week until 20 miles is reached. . I have read that it is better to have a bit of a step back week every 4th week and I will apply this principle to the LSRs too. I think this will help with my motivation too. Be interested in any views you seasoned marathon runners have?
I am rambling now. Hope you all have a good weekend. Congratulations to London for winning the bid to host the World Athletics Championships in 2017.
