CARB LOADING ? CONFUSED

Feb25201110 p.m.

well its 2 days before my half marathon now i havent done loads of training an 11 miler 2 weeks ago then i had bad calf injury for 10 days and just done couple of 3-4 milers this weeki did a run today worked out i was doing 8.52 pace i think i need a proper runners watch i just used my car to measure 1 mile out and di an easy  2 miler in 17.38 need to work out my pace to break 2 hours.

the diet before a half marathon is also an issue ive been losing weight recently cutting dow on carbs and feel ok i know i dont need masses of carbs as its not a full marathon but wondering how many grams of carbs a day i need im guessing around 200 grams i think tommorow im guna have bowl porridge a banana and big bowl pasta at night maybe with chicken but am not sure if its viable having any protein the day before at all ?  i need to research more the carb loading differences between half and full marathons but im gunna stick to oats, bananas an pasta i think.

  • Thebandit 'I wouldn't even worry about it for a half marathon. You are unlikely to get into a point where you run out of carbs in a 2hr period I wouldn't have any sort of portions larger that you normally have, by all means have a pasta dish the night before but don't go overboard cramming in things. Personally I wouldn't do anything "new" or different on the two days build up before an event. All that is like to happen if you do is that you will get an upset stomach or something equally annoying. Good luck with the run. I hope you break 2hrs' added 25th Feb 2011

  • Anncee 'Last year I lost weight on a low carb diet. During that time I did Bath HM on a very cold day and had a disastrous run. I suffered cramps in both legs (worked up from the feet) from about mile 6. On analysis, I was just not fuelled up. We need carbs in the days leading up to a HM and should even think about a sports drink during the event if your stomach can tolerate it. Protein is OK the day before, especially chicken but not too much. Have a good one!' added 25th Feb 2011
