Come on Girls!

Aug05200912:17 p.m.

One thing I did notice about London - the lack of girls - by that I mean lack of "normal sized" girls - loads of men with "eeeh it's all paid for" bellies, giving it a go and not giving a damn but I think girls will hold back - you know - "well I'd like to do it but I'm too fat" or "I'll be the biggest one there" or the worst one ever "I'll do it when I've lost 2 stone".

Are women embarrassed by their size all the time? - does this hold them back? - yes it does and what a shame, always waiting for that elusive 2 stone weight loss, holding you back from being the person you want to be - do you know - it really doesn't matter, no-one else gives a damn

Now I'm not suggesting in any way that you could just turn up and complete a triathlon without training - no way - but it's that training that just makes you feel good (sometimes) and it gives you a focus that isn't about counting calories and you start to feel different - you know kind of great! I am also not suggesting that being overweight is good - there's lots of evidence to the contrary - but I'm saying don't wait to be thin because it might not happen - you just have to make the most of what you've got - it might not be perfect but it might just be the best it's going to get (sorry!)

If I could have bottled that feeling I had when I crossed the finish line on Sunday - well I'd be a millionaire that's certain - I still have the biggest smile on my face and I've already got back into my training - swimming last night and running on Monday and again tonight - can't really change the name of my blog yet though as still a bit of a fat girl but one that just feels on top of the world - still can't quite believe that I swam a mile, then cycled 25 miles and then ran (sort of) 6 miles - all in one afternoon and only missed lunch!

Come on girls - you can do it!

  • Skye_Trekker 'Don't know why more women don't take part in these events... When we did the First Monster last year and walked into the registration it was like a tent of testosterone - very few women and only a handful of all female teams, which was a shame (unless you happened to be on the pull that is) We came to the conclussion that in general the majority of women don't appreciate getting hot & sweaty in the name of sport, and are too worried about their lipstick smudging & mascarra running. Can you tell I'm not a 'girly' girl?!' added 5th Aug 2009

  • sizzling_strawberry 'I know what you mean - I still wear mascarra tho and lip gloss you don't have to look rough at the start! I suppose most women like to do breaststroke with their heads out of the water and have a little chat on the way! My god what have I turned into???' added 5th Aug 2009
