Was this wise?

As many of you might know I had a bit of a fall last year - well to be honest it was more of a trip! Couldn't get my foot out of my stupid pedals at the start of a race - it's complicated and we've all done it - this time it was different as I went over the bike not just fell to the side - broke my bike - cost £200 to put it right etc - hospital etc - all was ok just looked a t*at!
So since then I have had a bit of an issue, mainly coming down hill, feel I'm going to fall off, all sorts of images and sometimes some of the images would be preferable to how I feel actually going down the hill - so upshot of it was I turned a perfectly respectable racing bke into a crappy hybrid by putting mountain bike handlebars on it!
In some ways it worked well, I felt OK, I actually went out on my bike which is a bit of a novelty! But oh boy am I slow - 10 minutes slower over the same route. This is with mega pedalling like a nutter - pedalling and getting nowhere to be honest! This then means my legs are done in for the run - also 10 minutes slower on the run - can you believe that -and that's with me being a slow coach anyway - now looking most definitely t*atish and I'm fitter than before!
So last night (bless him) exercise police put his handlebars on my bike - they're wider than mine - the theory being that I needed wider handlebars on my tiny bike (short legs) to compensate for my less than tiny body (fat arse) so now there's oil all over the kitchen floor and I have to get used to new bike and stop being a big scardy cat for the weekend - London and my first Olympic - was this wise??
My only thoughts were that with other bike set up 40k was going to take me 2 hours - I'm a slow runner so that's another 2 hours plus the swim another hour - see it adds up so if I can take off 10 minutes all will be good! (please don't let the swim take me an hour please!) (remind me again why I am doing this???)
