5 hours, 31 minutes and 35 seconds - Not bad for a fatty!

May0620101:16 a.m.

I've never experienced anything quite like it or had so many emotions from crushing nerves through to complete elation. Sure it's only a running race but it's only a running race in the same way as the Grand Canyon is only a hole in the ground and a Ferrari is only a car.

As the title suggests I managed the 26 miles and 385 yards in 5 hours, 31 minutes and 35 seconds which, just for the record, reads the same backwards as it does forwards (perhaps I am Satan or something?!). I would have liked to have got closer to my 5 hour target time if I'm honest but I can't be disappointed with my achievement. I managed to run to just shy of the 24 mile marker before my mental demons got the better of me and I started to walk. I started to run again at 25 miles though and had that rewarding feeling of running through the finish line. I'll never forget that feeling.

I've gone from this:

to this:

in less than 2 years so I'm pretty pleased with myself right now.

My story in more detail and with more pictures can be found here:

And finally?

I know I said I wouldn't but I entered the ballot for the 2011 marathon yesterday and have grand plans to run the New York Marathon for my 40th in 3 years time.

Once you start, you can't stop!

Cheers,

Smull
