Get Running in the Morning

We have all heard the African proverb about the gazelle and the lion. It goes like this, "Every morning a gazelle gets up knowing it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be eaten. And every morning a lion gets up knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. So whether you are a gazelle or a lion, every morning when you get up you'd better be running."
Imagine if we applied this mentality to our training for the Columbus Marathon. If we knew we had to get up each morning for a run, or else we would not be able to finish the race. Can you imagine how many thousands of people would be out running in the morning?
The Columbus Marathon just like most races starts in the morning. Not only is the morning an awesome opportunity to train, cleaner, fresher air, but it also can serve as race preparation. Here are some reasons to run in the morning.
-
You need to get up in the morning to run the race. Why not just get used to getting up early.
-
Your body will need to be ready to run in the morning.
-
You will start you day off stronger.
I remember when the Olympics were in Seoul, South Korea in 1988. Athletes from the United States were training at midnight, or 2 a.m. in the morning just to get their bodies ready for the time of the day they would be competing half way around the world. This same mentality should be used to approach your training for the Columbus Marathon.
