Running Outside or the Treadmill?

Feb1120107:57 p.m.

As a general rule I would always prefer to hit the roads or trails for a run but the treadmill plays quite a prominent role in my training. A lunchtime trip to the gym for a run and a few weights fits well into my routine and certain sessions are easier to pace and monitor on the treadmill. So I've done a speed session and a 'hills interval' session this week - and if it's still as cold tomorrow I'll be tempted to do my steady 'mid-distance' run indoors as well!

First race of the year (Wokingham HM) is just 10 days away now. With two colleagues at work also running the in-office rivalry is building! Training for a marathon, my focus has been more on distance than speed (notice me getting my excuses in early there) and I'm not sure what the other two are really capable of. As the old man of the trio I can always resort to the 'age card' if they leave me in their wake. Really looking forward to it ...
