first london post :)

Oct0320116:41 a.m.

hi everyone,i think its about time i actually started doing a london blog seeing as i've been on this bit for the last 4 years.....

as you can tell by the blog title i have managed to gain a place on my 4th attempt through the ballot,so training started properly yesterday :)

this training is going to be a bit different to most peoples though,as i will be doing it all on a treadmill!

yes you did hear right!

this year hasn't been very good for my knee as it has been swollen for most of the year, but in july it went down, and with talk of arthritis by the hospital i did a bit of research and found most people saying don't give up running, just do it on a treadmill as it cushions the joints more.

i have been running once a week since july, increasing the running by half a mile at a time, and at the moment i am up to 8 miles.the knee has been fine so this week i will do another run  of 3 miles and will do this every week until i start the 13 week plan in the london marathon magazine when it will be 3 times a week.

well done to all that got in this year, lets hope we all get through fine :)

  • Johnf 'Congratulations Vicki. If you can do your long runs on the treadmill you'll be mentally prepared for anything. Not saying you're mental of course!! Find yourself some trail runs perhaps to give a change, shouldn't be a problem down there and they will be lovely and soft through the winter.' added 3rd Oct 2011

  • Rob_Barber 'At least you'll be able to have some really good quality interval sessions, progression runs, tightly controlled tempo runs etc on the treadmill. Heck, you'll probably arrive there in better shape than the rest of us :-)' added 3rd Oct 2011
