Healthy living for a healthy life

I realise this blog is situated in the marathon training section but there's other indirect targets to my marathon training as well. Although I hope they last, not just for marathon training, not just for 2012, but for life. Basically I want to eat healthily and lose weight, Same as everyone else after Christmas really, same as me in previous years but I'm determined to stick to it this time in the hope of seeing the results in my times.
I got a breadmaker for Christmas, something I've wanted for a long time so this has inspired me to bake more healthy goodies. I've used it a few times already, and had it with homemade soups, in fact it's on now. I cook meals from scratch almost all the time anyway, so it makes sense to make my own bread and switch my baking of cakes to healthier recipes. I made smoothie earlier this week which is something I usually only do in summer (I drink mostly hot drinks in winter). I also bought hubby an ice cream maker for Christmas and am hoping to borrow it to make sorbets and frozen yogurts.
As for exercise, well, I went running on Monday with the intention of doing 8 miles, however i picked a new location to fit in with hubby's plans and ended up cutting it short to less than 3 miles. I think it was a combination of the niggly thigh from earlier in December recurring due the first half mile being steeply downhill and the cold (my legs didn't get warm even though my top half did) and the fact it's a long time since I ran three days in a row. It's not a bad injury and having rested yesterday I would've gone for a run / gym tonight except that hubby made last minute plans.
In terms of other exercise I walked miles at work yesterday (mostly in boots which suddenly leaked, let the rain in, made my feet rub sore and had me hobbling to the car, forced to change into my trainers to drive home). Today I've played football at work, so in terms of unofficial Janathon, I'm still hanging in there.
