In 1957, three surgeons sitting on the slopes on Mount Kilimanjaro talked and drew up plans to bring medical assistance to the most remote corners of Africa. 50 years later, AMREF, the African Medical and Research Foundation, is Africa’s leading health development organisation and continues to find the most appropriate solutions to Africa’s health problems.

AMREF works in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda focusing on issues such as HIV/Aids, malaria, access to safe water and training health workers.
