Life after the London marathon

My targets for 2016 are exactly the same as those for 2015 but weren't acheived........A sub 4 hour marathon; a sub 23.27 5k or park run (Hollywood's current PB); and a sub 1:50 half.

I'm doing two marathons this year: Manchester in April (did it in 4.13 last year); and Snowdon in October (did it in 5.01 last year).  I'm very excited about both.

Deciding to run my first London marathon in 2013; and being part of this site in the process has quite literally changed my life.  The confidence and pride it has created; the challenges that I've dared to set myself since; and the long term friendships and relationships that have developed are all very special.

Not quite 20 miles but close ...

It's been another successful week for me.  Monday was my speed session - 4 x one mile.  This is my least favourite speed session. It's hard work for too long a stretch at a time! I worked hard though and finished the reps well ahead of my scheduled pace...

My back story...

As Hollywood as already said - wow, wow,  and wow.  What a realbuzz weekend it’s been.  You guys are all amazing.  If only we could bottle up and sell realbuzz spirit we’d make a fortune! My training is going well.  Really well.  I’m knocking out my 3 r...

Another week done

It's been another good week of training for me.  Monday was my speed session.  12 x 400 meters.  Hard work but I loved it.  The speed work is probably my favourite session. Wednesday was a treat as the plan said only 3 miles.  Thank you Angus for this p...

Swept off my feet (nearly)...

Note to self...best to check the weather forcast in future before heading out for a 10 mile tempo run. The 10 o clock news last night talked about how the storms had hit the North West and, boy did I find that out for myself whilst I was out on my run. ...

"...And I will run until my f...

Another week ticked off the "Angus Plan".  All is still going well with no issues and I'm happily ticking off the runs as I do them. Monday was my speed session - 7 x 800 meters.  I've got into a routine where my sister comes with me for these sessions....

Thinking of this time last year

Today I got 15 miles in the bank.  I'm really pleased with the run and feel fine now.  I'll tell you about the run in a minute. I was thinking a lot today about my preparation for my first marathon last year.   Looking back at this I remember very well ...

All going to plan

It's been a good week and everything feels under control at the moment . Alongside a few others I'm doing "The Angus Plan" where I'm only running 3 times per week. Sometimes I do worry about whether that's enough but it's all I've usually got time for w...

Some good news; and some bad ...

Hello all Good news = my garmin seems to be ok :-).  Rob, perhaps you're right that it was affected by that solar thingy. Bad news = I can't come and watch you all in Snowdonia in October. The reason?  Well, after a very stressful day at work yesterday;...

When technology is not your f...

So today was my 13 mile run.  However, I have had a major fallout with my beloved garmin.  I plotted a route beforehand on the website - gmap pedometer. ( It's a great site for anyone that doesn't know it.  You can plot a route anywhere in the world.)  ...

Sometimes marathon training i...

I remembered last night why I was never going to do another marathon!!  I hated those mid week, mid distance training runs more than any of them.  Last night I got in from work feeling shattered.  It was cold, dark, and raining.  The last thing I wanted...

Thank you Mr Barber! Oh and ...

What a great start to 2014 it's been for the realbuzzers.  I think some of you have slightly lost your mind with the challenges you've taken on but I guess I'd expect nothing less! My year has kicked off with meeting Rob Barber today at bramhall park ru...

Wind and rain - love it, love...

What a year 2013 has been. Right at the beginning of the year I discovered that I had a place in the london marathon. And then I discovered this site and you lovely people. Your support and encouragement has made such a difference to me.  I checked my g...

I've not run for over a week :-(

Well it's been a while since I've been on here. I've tried to catch up with a few blogs and have been in awe of you all as usual.   My last run was over a week ago. I've had a combination of being crazy busy at work; not well for a few days; and all of ...

Been here before...

Firstly, a massive well done to Oggie in his marathon; and to all those who did the St Albans park run yesterday.  It looked like you all had an amazing day and the pictures were lovely.  I was so touched reading about the realbuzz spirit, support, and ...

Ever cried mid training run?

I nearly did yesterday! I like listening to podcasts on long runs instead of music.  Yesterday during an 8 miler I was listening to Dawn French on Desert Island Discs pick 'At last' by Etta James; and her explaining why it was played at her mums funeral...

Getting ready to rumble.

I've made a conscious decision to have just a 16 week plan for VLM which doesn't kick in for a few weeks; but I'm getting twitchy now and looking forward to officially being in training for the marathon again. Monday was a track session of 800 meter rep...

I've been quiet :-(

I've been so busy at work the past couple of weeks that I've not had much chance to read or comment on many blogs; or blog myself. Last night I did a 10k 'run in the dark' event (starting at 7.30 pm). It started at media city in Salford quays just outsi...

Today's park run. I didn't enjoy it at the time.  In fact I was berating myself for negative thoughts I was having.  The ground was wet = soft = hard work.  I was tired and was even having thoughts of wanting to give up.  ( Although I read somewhere rec...

PB ALERT!!! Twice in 3 days :-)

Running club tonight 4 x 1,600 meter (1 mile) reps. I did my first mile in 7.46. I couldn't believe it!!   I've never gone below 8 minutes for a mile before. I'm always one of the slowest in the group and  most of the others did sub 6 or 7 minute miles ...

Inspirational

I've just got back from a few days in krakow and have been trying to keep up with blogs whilst I've been away. It's not been easy with intermittent internet access so apologies if I've missed any! But, wow, what a weekend. I salute you all.  What a bril...

Where was I?

Wow - there has been some amazing running from everyone over the past couple of weeks.  Well done to everyone.  It's a privilege to be amongst such determined and motivated people. I had a few days off last week as I wasn't well.  I did a park run Satur...

Cross Training; Park Runs; Hi...

...seem to be a bit of a theme at the moment. Like Jane, I did a spot of cross training last week.  I went to a 'core ball' class which involved doing loads of excercises on, and with one of those giant inflatable balls.  How I didn't fall off the thing...

Great run for me this evening...

In my mission to get fitter and faster i combined my 2 least favourite things tonight - hills and grass - ouch. I ran up and jogged down repeatedly then sprinted the 1 1/2 mile back home. It was gruesome at the time but flippin' heck I feel great now!!
