Ok, got back from Jamaica on Wednesday and straight back to work Thursday. I have kind of coped with the jetlag but I am definately out of condition and really feeling it.
It was far too hot to do anything other than hide in shade and under water. I did do an awful lot of swimming (and my PADI Advanced Open Water) but I have realised that your average recreational snorkel or dive doesn't really keep you fit.
The food was rubbish so ended up on a lot of cheese sandwiches and burgers - add the cocktails and I have gained half a stone. With the jetlag I haven't even managed a run yet. I can really feel the difference, so have to get out this weekend and run properly - plus hopefully get the bikes out.
When I think I did nothing prior to 2007 I can't believe how much I can tell the difference now. Next 10k is in September & I want to get training properly now. There is a 10k midnight walk locally tonight, and seeing them with "race numbers" is actually making me jealous! I have created a monster.
So, my aim for the weekend is a relatively gentle 5k over about 30-35 minutes to see exactly how soft I have got in 2 weeks without training....
